Camelback Mountain
Camelback Mountain is not a destination for backpacking, but I have included it here anyway. Located in the heart of the city of Phoenix, Camleback presents a very steep and challenging climb (a 1300' ascent in just 1.16 miles)! The climber will find at the summit, however, the best view of the Phoenix metro area (at least in my opinion).  One disadvantage of coming here is that the trail is always very crowded, and parking is scarce (if you come at a peak time, expect to wait in line for a parking place).

There are two places on the trail where handrails, such as the one pictured here, are required.

Looking over a precipice on the summit.

Looking north from the summit.

Looking south from the summit.

This would be me, sitting on the summit. The skyline is seen in the background. The view is to the southwest.
Squaw peak (as seen from the summit of Camelback) is the peak on the left side of this picture.

Looking down on a fancy golf course to the north of the mountian.

This is taken from near the base of the mountain. I like this picture.
