Eagletail Wilderness Area
The Eagletail Wilderness Area lies about 60 miles west of Phoenix, not far off of I-10. This wilderness area contains some very spectacular geological formations (although not well seen on this hike). There is only one trail in the wilderness area (of which I know), but the hike detailed here did not use it. This hike was just a wander in the desert, using map and compass.

Getting there: There are many ways, since there are many little dirt "roads" that go into the wilderness area. The best bet is to get a map and follow I-10 west from Phoenix.

This marker is literally all by itself in the middle of nowhere. I did drive to this marker, but it is amazing that I found it at all! This wilderness area is very remote.

This is a view of Couthouse Rock, as seen from the sign pictured above.

Another view of Courthouse Rock, a bit closer this time.

This sign is mounted to a fence surrounding the gusher, pictured below. This gusher is on the far side of Courthouse Rock.

A view of the cement slab part of the gusher.

The holding tank at the far end of the gusher (want a drink?).
